Repetition and Consistency is the Key to Radical Change

To make permanent change in our lives we must embody a new behavior and belief system. New behaviors are introduced to the mind by changing our perspective and establishing hope that our current undesired situation can improve.

Reinforcing this idea into the subconscious mind through repetition – repeating an action on a consistent basis for a certain amount of time or in perpetuity – is what creates the new healthy automatic behavior.

In hypnotherapy, Repetition is one of the 5 Dominate Laws of Suggestibility, meaning how we take in information and learn the world around us.

To learn more about the 5 Dominate Laws of Suggestibility, I highly recommend reading The Professional Hypnotism Manual by Dr. John Kappas.

Repetition plays a big role in conditioning the subconscious mind. It is similar to conditioning the body to a new form through working out.

Of course, it would be ideal if we could go to the gym once and walk out with the “banging” body we desire. However, that is not how it works.

You must stay consistent with your routine for at least 21 to 90 days. During this time, you will not only see results but begin to embody new behaviors or become the new body.

Repetitiously feeding the subconscious mind suggestions that it now operates under a new belief helps to form a new unconscious habit.

Once the subconscious mind believes the new idea the physical world around you will begin to shift into the reality that matches the vibration of the unconscious or emotional mind.

In the beginning, our natural tendency to stay the same will buck up and try to fight for its position as the authority over our behavior and thinking.

This triggers resistance barriers that are acting as guards against change that moves us into the unknown.

Our natural defenses are to protect us from the unknown since it represents leaving our comfort zone where we feel safe.

Hypnotic Tip: If you experience some resistance or fear around something, close your eyes and imagine that you are doing that thing, whether it is swimming, flying on a plane, or speaking in front of a large audience.

Now, get a sense that there is a force field around you that is impenetrable and repeat to yourself 6 to 9 times, “I Am calm. I Am secure. My mind is clear, and I Am sure!” Remember, repetition and consistency are key!

Creating A Container For Your Fears

All fears serve a great purpose. In fact, there is not one emotion, thought, idea or behavior that does not. Sometimes fear paralyzes us and keeps us from going after what we desire.

A great way for you to move your fears out of your path is by creating a container for them. In doing so we can continue moving towards our goals despite fear.

There are two main types of fear:

The first is Primal Fear which triggers the flight, fight, freeze responses that live in the Primitive Mind. This is an instinctual fear that is innate in every human since the earliest existence of man.

The Primal Fears’ primary job is to make sure we survive and are safe from perceived danger in our immediate environment. The Primitive mind reminds us to eat, stay warm, or cool down, and to run, hide, or be still and quiet in the event of an attack.

The second fear is the Fear of the Unknown which is triggered when we are trying to make changes in our lives or do something different that we have never done before. This type of fear is also a form of protection because your mind does not know the difference between being chased by a Saber Toothed Tiger and starting a new business.

Fear of the Unknown shows up as resistance and can cause us to exhibit success blocking behaviors that hinder us from achieving certain goals or making healthier life choices.

For example, “If I quit smoking how will I be able to relax after work?” “If I start this weight loss journey, does that mean I can’t ever eat pizza again?” “Will I be financially secure if I start my own business?”

When we do not know what is going to happen after we achieve a goal, our resistance barriers go up as a form of protection against the unknown.

Here are a few tips on what to do when you notice fear is getting in the way of your success.

  1. Acknowledge the fear and admit it is the reason you are self-sabotaging. Whether you are procrastinating on a project, unable to stick to your fitness goals, or pushing away a potential new friend or romantic partner.
  2. Try identifying what triggered the fear. Every fear has a point of origin and is associated to some kind of trauma from the past that our Primitive Mind is trying to protect us from. Sitting with a pen and pad and asking yourself the question, “What am I afraid of in this situation?” can yield some profound insights.
  3. Once you have identified the trigger now it’s time to create a container for the fear. I love this technique. It is highly effective and works rather quickly depending on the intensity of the fear.
    • Step 1 – Take a few deep breaths and close your eyes.
    • Step 2 – Get a sense of what might be the ideal container to trap the fear i.e., glass jar, metal safe or cage, a box with a lock. Whatever you come up with is exactly the ideal container for you.
    • Step 3 – Turn the fear into a form that can fit inside the container. If you have a hard time visualizing, think of something you have seen before that represents being held inside a container that cannot get out it. *I will be doing another video on how people with aphantasia, which is the inability to form mental images of objects that are not present, can still use imagery to assist with subconscious reconditioning.
    • Step 4 – Mentally place the fear inside of the container and decide what will happen to the fear. Will it stay in the container temporarily until you reach your goal? Will it transmute into something that can benefit you? Or will you decide to get rid of the fear all together? The choice is totally up to you.

This is a starting point. It is not the end-all, cure-all. This technique will help you move the fear aside so you can take steps towards your goals. In these videos, I give you tips and tricks to help you achieve instant relief in the moment. If certain issues are recurring you definitely want to seek assistance with getting to the root of the problem so you can permanently relieve yourself of the issue. I hope you give this container method a try the next time you find that fear is blocking your forward movement.

Comparison is the Death of Creativity

Do you compare yourself to others’ body, appearance, money, relationship, or success? Comparing ourselves to someone else is a form of self-sabotage as it places us in a box of limitation that keeps us stuck in mediocrity. Playing small stifles spontaneity and inspiration thus bringing death to the door of creativity.

Creative energy comes from Divine inspiration. It is that spark of raw energy, drive, joy, and excitement. When we compare ourselves to others and try to replicate what they are doing, we lose that raw energy. A part of us dies and blocks our ability to pull new ideas down from the ether. This kind of energy is chaotic until we claim the idea for ourselves and shine our unique light upon it giving it some structure and form.

There is a difference between comparison and observation, however. I can and observe somebody’s life and say, “I’m inspired by how they live their life and I’d like to know how they accomplished that.” That is being inspired and observing success in an area of life you are looking to improve. Comparison is looking for the similarities between you and another person.

While there is nothing wrong with noticing how you might be similar, the danger is when you find the similarity and feel inadequate because you assume their experience is better than yours. Trying to become them or copy an inspired idea that they have shined their unique light on, is when we start to live inauthentically.

If you have ever compared yourself to someone else and felt inadequate instead of inspired, it simply means you never received confirmation that you are enough. YOU ARE ENOUGH!

We have creative ideas flowing through us all the time, they seem to be hidden because we have not learned how to trust our instincts and may still be seeking outside validation that our ideas are good enough to breathe life into.

To move into a space of self-approval and connect to trust, we must take time to just be with ourselves. You can do this in meditation, taking a long walk, or journaling. It is in self-reflection that we find our true essence and when we do, we never run out of fresh ideas that serve our highest good. Go forth and live and thrive in your creative energy!!
